When Pressure Does More Harm Than Good: Why We Use Soft Washing

When you should soft wash

What Really Goes Into a Safe Soft Wash

Not all power washing is high pressure — and that’s a good thing.
When it comes to newer concrete, stamped designs, or delicate wood surfaces, soft washing is the hero you didn’t know you needed. At
Hot Stuff Pressure Washing, we believe in using the right approach for every surface — and sometimes that means turning the pressure down to get better, safer results.

What Is Soft Washing, Anyway?

Soft washing is a low-pressure cleaning method — typically between 800 and 1,000 PSI — that relies on a safe mix of detergents and water (yes, that includes bleach — but more on that in a minute) to gently remove dirt, mold, mildew, and grime. Instead of blasting away the mess with brute force, soft washing lets chemistry do the heavy lifting.

It’s especially effective — and essential — for surfaces that can’t withstand high pressure without risk of damage.

New Concrete + High Pressure = Big Mistake

If your concrete driveway is less than 5 years old, it’s still curing and settling. Hitting it with 3,000 PSI might seem effective, but it can lead to etching, surface wear, or even blowing out the aggregate (those little decorative rocks inside the concrete). Once that damage is done, it’s permanent — and expensive to fix.

That’s why for newer concrete and more sensitive surfaces, we switch to low-pressure soft washing in the 800–1,000 PSI range.

We apply soft washing techniques on:

  • New concrete (under 5 years old)

  • Stamped concrete (of any age)

  • Wooden decks or other porous materials

Basically, if it’s delicate or detailed, we’re not blasting it. We’re caring for it.

Let’s Talk Chemicals — Actually, Let’s Say Detergents

When we use the soft wash process, we apply a solution of bleach and water — It’s formulated to break down grime and organic material, not harm your surfaces.

And no, it’s not some harsh industrial mix that eats through your driveway. We carefully dilute our solutions and only use what’s necessary to get the job done safely. That’s the difference between DIY guessing and professional precision.

When Soft Washing Is the Only Smart Choice

Certain surfaces don’t ever belong under high pressure:

  • Stamped concrete often has a decorative sealant that can peel, chip, or flake under pressure

  • Wood decks can splinter or erode quickly

  • Painted or treated surfaces can lose their finish entirely

  • Unaged concrete (less than 5 years old) is highly prone to etch marks and surface damage

Soft washing preserves the surface while still giving you a deep, satisfying clean — no risk, all reward.

How Hot Stuff Pressure Washing Keeps You Covered

At Hot Stuff Pressure Washing, we’re not out here to show off how powerful our machines are — we’re here to protect your property. That’s why we:

  • Assess the surface material and condition before every job

  • Use the correct PSI (or soft wash method) to prevent damage

  • Apply detergents professionally for a deep, lasting clean

  • Customize each approach based on your property’s age, material, and needs

If it’s too new, too delicate, or too detailed for high pressure, soft washing is your surface’s best friend — and we’re the team to do it right.

Ready for a Safer Clean?

Whether it's a brand-new driveway, a stamped concrete patio, or a beautiful wood deck — don’t risk it with generic high-pressure hacks. Go with the pros who know when less pressure = more protection.
